An article in MarketingWeek gave us a pretty good indication of why so much marketing is so awful.
According to a study conducted by Deloitte, "functional marketing knowledge is considered only the sixth most useful skill" among marketing execs.
Imagine if “functional medical knowledge" was considered only the sixth most useful skill among doctors. Or if “functional flying knowledge" was considered only the sixth most useful skill among pilots. Is it any wonder why so much marketing is such a pile of crap?
What do these clowns think their job is? According to the article, these people think the three most important traits for a marketer are being "communicative, collaborative and resilient."
These people don’t want to be marketers. They want to be greeters on a cruise ship.
